August 2025 -Pune is preparing to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 with grandeur, as the festival enjoys official recognition as a Maharashtra State Festival. Scheduled from August 27 to September 6, the city will come alive with processions, cultural events, and thousands of devotees visiting its famous Ganesh pandals. Proper planning is key to enjoying the festivities without hassle.
To handle the surge of visitors, Pune Metro will operate with extended hours from August 30 to September 5, running trains until 2 AM. On Anant Chaturdashi, September 6–7, the metro service will continue non-stop for 41 hours. In addition, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) will run over 900 extra buses during the festival, including 620 buses operating continuously on September 5 and 6. Night services will carry a small surcharge, and passes will not be valid after midnight. Indian Railways is also introducing special trains to destinations such as Ratnagiri, Sawantwadi, and Madgaon to ease travel for festival-goers.
Traffic management will be stringent during the celebrations. Pune police have restricted heavy vehicle movement on 12 key roads until September 7, including Shastri Road, Tilak Road, Kumthekar Road, Laxmi Road, Kelkar Road, Bajirao Road, FC Road, JM Road, and Sinhagad Road. While some routes will remain open for public buses, heavy vehicles are advised to take alternative paths. To further reduce congestion, temporary parking areas have been set up in coordination with local schools and colleges.
For those seeking a calmer experience, visiting pandals in the early morning between 6 AM and 9 AM is recommended, as crowds are thinner during these hours. Devotees are also advised to carry water, wear comfortable shoes, secure personal belongings, and use public transportation wherever possible.
Pune is home to several well-known Ganesh pandals that attract devotees from across the region. Kasba Ganpati, the city’s first Ganesh Mandal established in 1893, remains a central attraction.
