PM Modi Kolkata roadshow inauguration

August 22, 2025 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a massive roadshow in Kolkata, drawing enthusiastic crowds along the city streets as part of his visit to West Bengal. The event marked a significant political and developmental milestone, with the Prime Minister also inaugurating multiple infrastructure projects.

The roadshow traversed several key areas, including Dum Dum, with supporters waving national flags and chanting slogans. The turnout reflected widespread public enthusiasm for the Prime Minister, as the BJP seeks to strengthen its presence in the state ahead of upcoming elections.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated three major metro projects aimed at improving urban connectivity. These include the Sealdah-Esplanade stretch of the Green Line, the Ruby Crossing-Beleghata section of the Orange Line, and the Noapara-Jai Hind Airport stretch of the Yellow Line. Notably, the airport line will directly connect the city to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, facilitating smoother travel for commuters.

In addition to infrastructure developments, the Prime Minister delivered pointed remarks about governance in the state, criticizing the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) for alleged corruption and mismanagement. Modi’s slogan during the visit, “TMC jaabe, poribortan hobe” (TMC will go, change will happen), resonated with many citizens expressing dissatisfaction with the state government.

As part of the inaugural metro ride, Prime Minister Modi was joined by schoolchildren who interacted with him during the journey. The engagement underscored the administration’s focus on education and youth participation in civic life.

Observers noted that the visit served both as a development initiative and a political statement. The inauguration of metro lines is expected to ease traffic congestion and improve urban transport, while the roadshow highlighted the BJP’s intent to challenge TMC’s longstanding dominance in West Bengal politics.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Kolkata thus combined public engagement, infrastructural progress, and political messaging, setting the tone for an active electoral season in the state.
