August 9, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to officially open the Yellow Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro on August 10, 2025. This new elevated metro corridor spans approximately 19.15 kilometers, connecting RV Road in the heart of Bengaluru to Bommasandra in the southern industrial zone.
The Yellow Line covers significant junctions such as Silk Board, BTM Layout, and Electronic City—areas that house numerous IT and biotech companies. The route features 16 stations and was developed at a cost of ₹5,056.99 crore. Authorities anticipate that the line will substantially ease commuting for residents and workers in Bengaluru’s southern regions.
Among the project’s engineering highlights are the tallest metro interchange station in the city located at Jayadeva Junction and Bengaluru’s first double-decker flyover that integrates road traffic with metro transit. Passenger services are expected to commence soon following the inauguration ceremony.
This metro expansion is projected to serve around eight lakh daily passengers, particularly benefiting professionals traveling along Hosur Road and the Outer Ring Road. Initially, trains will run at intervals of 25 minutes, with plans to reduce this to every 20 minutes as additional trains become operational.
In addition to the Yellow Line launch, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for Phase 3 of the Namma Metro project. This phase will add 44.65 kilometers of metro lines at an estimated cost of ₹15,611 crore, aiming to further enhance urban transportation and reduce traffic congestion.
Local authorities have announced traffic management measures and restrictions in key areas including Hosur Road, Silk Board, and Electronics City on August 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Commuters are encouraged to use alternative routes during this period.
The inauguration of the Yellow Line marks a significant step in Bengaluru’s efforts to expand and modernize its metro rail system to meet the growing demands of the city’s population.
