September 5, 2025: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday presented the National Teachers’ Awards to 45 outstanding educators from across India at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The awards, conferred on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, recognize exemplary contributions by teachers in shaping the nation’s educational landscape.
The recipients were chosen for their dedication, innovative teaching methods, and efforts to enhance student learning outcomes. The selection process involved a thorough evaluation of candidates’ achievements, particularly in challenging educational environments.
Among the awardees was Neelam Yadav, Principal of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Tapukara, Rajasthan. Since 2021, Yadav has significantly increased student enrollment from 622 to over 1,300, focusing on promoting girls’ education in the Muslim-majority region of Mewat. She spearheaded improvements in school infrastructure, implemented safety measures, and provided professional counseling to encourage female students’ education.
In Mumbai, Sonia Kapoor, Headmistress of Atomic Energy Central School 2, was recognized for her innovative, play-based learning techniques. Kapoor’s initiatives include a student-run vegetable garden and the development of educational kits inspired by NCERT’s ‘Jaadui Pitara,’ designed to make learning interactive and engaging.
During her address, President Murmu highlighted the pivotal role of teachers in shaping the nation’s future. She stated, “Education is as essential as food, clothing, and shelter; it is fundamental to a person’s dignity and security.” She emphasized the importance of nurturing sensitive, responsible, and morally grounded students alongside academic excellence.
The President also noted the transformative potential of technology in education but stressed that its effectiveness depends on “smart teachers” who understand students’ developmental needs and make learning both meaningful and enjoyable.
The National Teachers’ Awards 2025 ceremony celebrated educators’ tireless efforts in advancing India’s education system and underscored the government’s commitment to recognizing and empowering teachers nationwide.
