The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved the allocation of eight amenity spaces for parking near the upcoming Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Pune Metro Line 3 stations. This move aims to enhance commuter convenience and strengthen the city’s public transportation infrastructure.
Following a request from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the PMC identified and designated eight sites for parking facilities near key Metro Line 3 stations. These locations are strategically situated within 100 to 400 meters of the stations, ensuring easy access for commuters. The sites include Balewadi Stadium–Food Hub station, NICMAR–Amar Tech Park station, Ramnagar in front of K Square Living, Laxmi Nagar, Balewadi Phata, Baner Gaon, and Baner. Collectively, these plots cover approximately 13,051 square meters of land. In addition, two more sites will be developed in the PMRDA area, further expanding parking availability for Metro users.
The provision of these parking spaces is part of a broader plan to improve last-mile connectivity for Metro commuters. By facilitating convenient parking options, the PMC intends to encourage greater public transport usage, reduce traffic congestion, and promote sustainable urban mobility in Pune.
Pune Metro Line 3 is a 23.3 km elevated corridor connecting Civil Court in Shivajinagar to Megapolis Pune in Hinjewadi. The project is being developed by Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) under the PMRDA. As of now, approximately 45% of the work is complete, but delays in land acquisition have pushed the expected completion date to March 2026.
In response to commuter concerns, the Forum for IT Employees (FITE) has urged the PMRDA to consider a phased opening of Metro Line 3. They specifically propose the early operation of the nearly complete 13 km stretch from Hinjewadi Phase 3 to Baner, which is already undergoing testing. FITE believes such a step could significantly ease daily commuting difficulties for thousands of IT professionals in the area.
The allocation of eight parking spaces by the PMC marks an important step in strengthening infrastructure around Pune Metro Line 3. These facilities are expected to enhance commuter convenience and encourage public transport use, contributing to the city’s efforts to build a more sustainable and efficient urban transport network.
