In a major push towards promoting sports and youth development, the Punjab government has announced the construction of 3,083 state-of-the-art playgrounds across the state in the first phase of its flagship “Playground for All” initiative. This monumental move is part of the broader vision to enhance grassroots sports infrastructure, encourage physical activity, and create inclusive spaces for youth engagement.
The announcement was made by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming the state’s rural and urban sporting landscape. The modern playgrounds will be developed across 23 districts, ensuring widespread coverage and accessibility. Each playground will be equipped with facilities for multiple sports, including football, volleyball, kabaddi, athletics, and more.
As per the official statement, these playgrounds will not only cater to aspiring athletes but also serve as recreational spaces for school children and local communities. The initiative aligns with Punjab’s larger mission of fostering a healthy and active youth population while nurturing talent at the grassroots level.
The state government has allocated a substantial budget for the project, underlining its strategic importance. “This step is not just about infrastructure, but about nurturing the future of Punjab through sports,” said CM Mann during a press briefing. “Our youth deserve world-class facilities in their own villages and towns.”
The project is being undertaken in collaboration with the Punjab Sports and Youth Services Department and will adhere to modern construction standards and eco-friendly design principles. Each playground will feature proper lighting, fencing, drainage, and sports equipment to support year-round activity.
In addition to infrastructure, the government is also planning to launch training programs and hire qualified coaches to guide young talent. This holistic approach aims to identify and groom athletes from an early age and prepare them for state, national, and international competitions.
Experts and sports professionals have lauded the initiative as a transformative step for Punjab. Sports academies and local clubs are expected to benefit immensely, creating employment opportunities for coaches, trainers, and ground staff.
