July 18,2025:
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a scathing attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist), alleging that both lack empathy for the people of India. Speaking at a public event, Gandhi said the real crisis in Indian politics today is the emotional disconnect between political leaders and the citizens they represent.
“The real tragedy in Indian politics today is that very few people are actually feeling what others are feeling,” Gandhi remarked. He accused both the RSS and the CPI(M) of being emotionally detached and failing to understand the everyday struggles of the common people.
The Congress MP’s comments come as part of his ongoing effort to position himself as a people-centric leader, building on the momentum of his recent Bharat Jodo Yatra. Through this nationwide outreach campaign, Gandhi has repeatedly emphasized the need for empathy, compassion, and inclusivity in political leadership.
Gandhi’s criticism was particularly sharp towards the CPI(M), which holds power in Kerala. He accused the party of becoming bureaucratic and rigid, losing touch with its original ideology centered on the working class. At the same time, he alleged that the RSS, the ideological backbone of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), promotes a form of nationalism that is disconnected from the real needs of the people.
“These organizations are more focused on power and control than understanding the pain of the public,” he said.
Reacting to the comments, CPI(M) leaders dismissed the allegations as baseless. A senior party leader said, “Rahul Gandhi’s remarks are politically motivated and do not reflect the ground reality in Kerala or anywhere else.” Similarly, RSS-affiliated spokespersons accused Gandhi of mischaracterizing the organization’s role in nation-building and community service.
Political analysts believe that Gandhi’s remarks are part of a broader Congress strategy to revive its grassroots appeal ahead of the 2026 assembly elections and the 2029 general elections. By attacking both the ideological right and left, Gandhi is attempting to reclaim the center space in Indian politics, emphasizing emotional intelligence and people-first leadership.
On social media, Gandhi’s statements sparked widespread debate, with hashtags like #EmpathyInPolitics and #RahulGandhi trending for several hours. Many users echoed his sentiments, pointing out the increasing alienation between politicians and citizens.
As the political climate continues to heat up, Gandhi’s remarks have added to the growing discourse around the moral responsibilities of political leaders. Whether this emotional appeal translates into electoral support remains to be seen, but it has certainly reignited conversations about compassion, governance, and connection in the Indian political system.
