June 16, 2025 — Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Sunday due to stomach-related issues. The hospital confirmed her condition is stable and that she is under observation.
In an official statement, Dr. Ajay Swaroop, Chairman of the hospital’s Board of Management, said, “Mrs. Sonia Gandhi has been admitted for stomach-related concerns and is being monitored by a team of specialists.”
Sources close to the family indicated that the 77-year-old leader had been experiencing abdominal discomfort, prompting doctors to recommend hospitalization for further evaluation. While details remain confidential, she is said to be responding well to treatment.
The Congress party issued a brief statement assuring supporters of her well-being and confirming that she is under expert care. No timeline has been shared regarding her discharge.
Leaders across party lines extended their wishes for her recovery. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mamata Banerjee, and Sharad Pawar were among those who posted get-well messages on social media.
Sonia Gandhi, the longest-serving president of the Congress party, has maintained a lower public profile in recent years due to health reasons but continues to play a significant advisory role. Her hospitalization comes at a time when the Congress is preparing for key state elections following the 2024 Lok Sabha results.
