August 21, 2025: In a major development for satellite internet services, Starlink Satellite Communication Pvt Ltd has announced that it will now use Aadhaar-based authentication to verify its customers in India. The move comes as part of the company’s efforts to streamline onboarding while ensuring compliance with the country’s Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations.
According to officials, the integration of Aadhaar authentication will allow individuals to complete the registration process in a smooth, secure, and fully paperless manner. This initiative is expected to reduce onboarding time significantly, while also enhancing the overall user experience.
The partnership with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) enables Starlink to leverage the country’s biometric-based identity system. By doing so, the company joins a growing number of service providers in India adopting digital KYC measures to promote efficiency and safeguard customer information.
A senior spokesperson from Starlink stated, “This initiative aligns with our commitment to providing seamless access to high-speed satellite internet across India. Aadhaar-based authentication ensures that our customers can verify their identities quickly, securely, and conveniently.”
Under this arrangement, Starlink has been designated as both a Sub-Authentication User Agency and a Sub-eKYC User Agency, allowing it to utilize UIDAI’s authentication and e-KYC services for up to 20 lakh users. Analysts believe this step will significantly enhance the company’s ability to expand services, especially in remote and underserved areas where conventional connectivity is limited.
Industry experts note that the integration of Aadhaar e-KYC represents a wider trend in India towards digital identity verification, which has implications not only for telecom and internet services but also for banking and financial technology sectors. The system offers a secure method of identity verification while minimizing paperwork and administrative delays.
