T Raja Singh Quits BJP Over Reported Appointment of N Ramchander Rao as Telangana Chief

T Raja Singh quits BJP over Telangana chief row

June 30 ,2025— In a significant political development ahead of the upcoming elections, Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), protesting the party’s reported decision to appoint N Ramchander Rao as the next Telangana BJP president.

T Raja Singh, a firebrand leader known for his strong Hindutva views, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the central leadership’s alleged move to elevate Ramchander Rao. In a public statement, Singh said the party’s decision does not reflect the sentiments of ground-level workers and loyalists who have toiled for years to strengthen the BJP’s base in Telangana.

“This decision is deeply disappointing. Leaders who have worked relentlessly for the party and earned public trust are being ignored. It is disheartening to see the party ignore grassroots voices,” Singh said in his resignation message shared on social media platforms.

Although the BJP has not officially announced the appointment of N Ramchander Rao, reports of his likely elevation have stirred controversy within the state unit. Rao, a senior advocate and former MLC, is seen as a more moderate face in comparison to Singh’s hardline image.

Political observers view Singh’s exit as a serious jolt to the BJP in Telangana, where the party has been working to expand its influence amid stiff competition from the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and a resurging Congress. Singh was considered one of the party’s most recognizable faces in Hyderabad and had a strong following among core ideological supporters.

Sources within the state BJP unit suggest that Singh’s resignation may deepen factionalism, with several local leaders expressing similar discontent behind closed doors. The development could potentially hamper the party’s preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the next state assembly polls.

Meanwhile, the BJP has maintained silence on the matter. Senior leaders have neither confirmed Ramchander Rao’s appointment nor commented on Singh’s resignation. However, insiders indicate that the central leadership is unlikely to reconsider its decision, having made up its mind to steer the party in a more centrist direction in Telangana.

T Raja Singh had previously faced suspension from the party in 2022 over controversial remarks but was later reinstated after clarifying his position and promising to align with the party’s discipline. His latest decision to quit could signal a long-term shift in regional political alignments.

With Singh’s departure, all eyes are now on the BJP’s next move and whether it can contain the growing unrest within its Telangana cadre. The coming days are expected to be crucial for the party’s organizational stability and electoral strategy in the state.
