July 30, 2025 :
Two terrorists attempting to infiltrate Indian territory were neutralised by the Indian Army during a targeted operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Deghwar sector of Poonch district. The encounter took place under Operation ShivShakti, a coordinated counter-infiltration effort based on actionable intelligence.
The operation was launched following joint intelligence inputs from military and civilian agencies, along with support from the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Troops deployed tactical ambushes at suspected infiltration routes, leading to a confrontation with the infiltrators. Both suspects were killed during the exchange of fire.
Defence spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal confirmed the success of the mission, stating that the operation was carried out with “high precision and coordination.” No injuries to Indian personnel or civilians were reported.
A significant cache of arms and explosives was recovered from the site. Items included:
Two automatic rifles with loaded magazines
One pistol with spare ammunition
Multiple grenades and two improvised explosive devices (IEDs)
Communication tools and surveillance materials
Medical supplies and rations of foreign origin
Preliminary assessments suggest that the individuals were likely affiliated with a Pakistan-based terror group and had crossed the LoC with the intent to disrupt peace in the region.
This development comes shortly after the Indian Army concluded Operation Mahadev, which led to the elimination of three terrorists allegedly involved in the April 2025 Pahalgam attack. That earlier operation had revealed links to Lashkar-e-Taiba, a proscribed terror outfit operating from Pakistan-occupied territory.
Security officials have raised concerns over an apparent increase in infiltration attempts along the LoC in recent weeks. Enhanced border surveillance, regular intelligence sharing, and rapid response protocols have been key to thwarting such incursions.
A senior Army official stated that the armed forces remain fully prepared to neutralise any threats along the border and will continue to strengthen security mechanisms in high-risk zones like Poonch and Rajouri.
The identities of the slain infiltrators are yet to be formally confirmed, and further investigation is underway to determine their origins, route of infiltration, and possible local connections.
Operation ShivShakti underscores the Indian Army’s ongoing commitment to counter-terrorism and border security. It also serves as a warning to hostile actors attempting to destabilise the region through violence and infiltration.
