Apple unveiled its slimmest smartphone, the iPhone Air, at a product launch event on September 9, 2025, in a rare move that saw industrial designer Abidur Chowdhury take center stage instead of a company executive. The event highlighted Apple’s renewed focus on design innovation and sustainability.

The iPhone Air features a 5.6mm thin titanium body, making it the thinnest iPhone in the company’s history. The frame is constructed from Grade 5 titanium, composed of 80% recycled material, ensuring both lightweight handling and enhanced durability. The device is protected by Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and back, which Apple claims provides three times better scratch resistance compared to previous models. Despite its slim profile, the phone supports all-day battery life through intelligent power management and a high-density battery.

Powered by Apple’s A19 Pro chip, the iPhone Air delivers performance comparable to MacBook Pro devices. It also incorporates the N1 chip and C1X modem, enabling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity. The 6.5-inch ProMotion display features a 120Hz refresh rate and 3,000 nits of brightness, providing vibrant visuals even under direct sunlight.

Photography capabilities have been significantly upgraded. The device comes with a 48MP dual-fusion rear camera system, a 12MP telephoto lens, and an 18MP front-facing camera. Features such as Center Stage and dual-camera recording make it easier for users to capture high-quality images and videos.

Abidur Chowdhury, who joined Apple in 2019, emphasized the importance of combining aesthetics with functionality. His presentation underscored a shift in Apple’s approach, where design leadership is taking a more visible role in product launches.

The iPhone Air is expected to hit stores worldwide later this month, and analysts predict strong consumer interest given its unique design and advanced features.
