Darbhanga Man Arrested for Allegedly Abusing PM Modi at Opposition Rally

Darbhanga man arrested Modi insult

30 August,2025 -In a notable development in Bihar, Mohammad Rizvi, also known as Raja, was taken into police custody in Darbhanga on Thursday for allegedly using offensive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother, Heeraben Modi. The remarks were reportedly made during the Congress-led “Voter Adhikar Yatra” rally held at Atharwel Vithauli Chowk.

Rizvi, a resident of Bhopura village in the Singhwara area, is said to have delivered the controversial statements from the rally stage. Following complaints from participants and bystanders, authorities registered a case at the Simri police station. Rizvi was subsequently presented before the court and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.

The incident has provoked widespread political reactions. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar condemned the language used, terming it “completely inappropriate and shameful.” Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing the media from Guwahati, demanded a public apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and criticized the rally as an attempt to consolidate the opposition’s vote base.

The Congress party clarified that Rizvi was not associated with it and distanced itself from his actions. Despite this, clashes were reported between BJP and Congress supporters in Patna in the aftermath of the arrest, highlighting the growing tensions in the state’s political environment.

This episode has sparked discussions on the boundaries of political discourse in India, where personal attacks against public figures and their families are increasingly becoming contentious. Legal experts note that authorities are reviewing whether stricter provisions under law may apply, given Rizvi’s alleged involvement in previous protests linked to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

As Bihar prepares for upcoming elections, political analysts suggest that such incidents could shape voter perceptions and influence party strategies. Law enforcement agencies have emphasized their commitment to maintaining order while upholding the dignity of public officials.

The arrest of Mohammad Rizvi has not only intensified political debates in Bihar but has also brought attention to the fine line between freedom of expression and personal defamation in the political arena. Observers note that the incident may have longer-term implications for political rallies and public conduct across the state.
